Ball x Bars: Blanco Edition

Joshua Eduardo, a footballer’s name if I’ve ever seen one; also known as Blanco, another South London rapper is added to our ongoing series. With a track named after ‘Salomon Rondon’, Blanco is not a casual in this game.

Originally based in Kennington, Blanco is a key figure in the iconic drill group called Harlem Spartans, an established institution in UK rap culture.

Listen to any track of his and you’ll find a ball-related bar. From his recent tape ‘City Of God’, we handpicked the coldest football lyrics featured:

Six paths, coulda’ went colly or uni, eight balls tryna volley that like Rooney

Blanco – Pain

Puma endorsements, I don’t know, must think I’m Roberto Baggio

Blanco – Asura & Indra

Only do a show if the Jakes will allow us, blocking my visual prowess … Caught in the build-up, scraped and fouled him let V.A.R. disallow it

Blanco – Itachi

Moved bro to Brighton, Danny Welbeck

Blanco – Safe Space

Blanco’s football references doesn’t stop at his lyricism, he tweets his takes and opinions regarding the sport. Take a look, Blanco knows his ball.

Scroll down his timeline and you may notice his relentless JS25 propaganda, this is because both Sancho and Blanco grew up in the same area of South London. Jadon’s first signature boot even featured the phrase ‘Kennington where it started’, which is also a well known song from the Harlem Spartans. As well as this, Blanco and Arsenal and Feyenoord baller Reiss Nelson also have a close friendship.
